Production Coordinator, Ricochet

I knew that I wanted to enter the industry but didn’t really know how or meet any like-minded people.

"I started MAMA Youth in 2020 when I had graduated from the University of Bristol studying Sociology. I knew that I wanted to enter the industry but didn’t really know how or meet any like-minded people.

The training was beyond what I had expected. They throw you into the deep end and the outcome is beyond belief. Although it’s rigorous, the training gears each cohort for the complexities within TV and all that comes with production. I felt equipped with enough knowledge to start my career in any genre of TV. It, of course, it didn’t help that we had a lockdown during our training, which brought on its own issues to resolve, but we made a programme, and it was fabulous!

After finishing MAMA Youth Project, I started a six-week internship at Ricochet working as a Production Secretary for The Repair Shop and Britain’s Top Takeaways. Within two weeks they had extended my contract and I’ve been there ever since.

I’ve been working on logistics for a variety of shows including new formats such as The Great Antiques Challenge and Toy Hospital. I’ve now had experience with organising international and domestic shoots, and thoroughly enjoying working on Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild. It’s challenging and fast-paced at the best of times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

MAMA Youth Project is integral to our making television an inclusive industry. It helps provide opportunities to underrepresented groups as well as build a network of like-minded people who are always there to help."
